Character Information

General
Canon Source: ReBoot
Canon Format: TV series
Character's Name: Enzo Matrix (More known as just "Matrix" to distinguish him from the back-up copy of his younger self.)
Character's Age: His maturity and appearance resembles someone in his late-20s. Being a computer format, his actual age is an undetermined shorter length of time counted and experienced differently than reality. Even inside his canon, time is felt differently in different places.

What form will your character's NV take? A video window (closely resembling an iPad).

Abilities

Character's Canon Abilities: Matrix is powerful; a bit stronger than a very muscular man. But he can be hurt. (He was knocked out by a golfball once.) He's not a human, though he looks like it. If he's hurt or weakened, usually he'll start to look transparent and flicker like a bad TV, and completely dissolve if killed (deleted). But some outside wounds, such as when he lost his eye, will be bruised or bloodied. Healing would usually be helped by linking an energy supply to his body. Human surgery probably wouldn't do anything to help him.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? When near other characters, Matrix is capable of taking on a generic form of someone the character would consider an opponent or enemy (when applicable). This might involve complete shapeshifting (such as turning into an alien if the canon is about space invaders), but it usually only involves an instantaneous change in equipment and outfit. This is not always helpful to Matrix and he might turn into a fairly useless form. He still maintains some identifiable features and his own voice. He activates it by tapping his icon twice and saying "REBOOT!". The power of the ability can be grown slowly over time by the odds of usefulness of the reboot.

Weapons: A gun named "Gun"... (yes really). It can do burst or single shot fire. The gun works in combination with his fake-eye, which emits glowing red targets that stick to what he wants to shoot at. (They can be removed physically.) The gun can also be aimed via voice command without holding it, but he usually aims manually. He can call it to his hand while it's floating.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.

Character History: Wiki link.

Point in Canon: End of the series. Right at the cliffhanger that the show ended on.

Character Personality: Before the games, Enzo was an excitable and typical young boy, filled with optimism and fanatic ideals. His enthusiasm and innocence bordered on obnoxious, and he was always stubborn in his desires to help others, even if he lacked experience or they didn't want it.

"Matrix" is the result of that boy growing up trapped in games with only his girlfriend and his dog. With the stress of so many frequent life-or-death challenges, and the belief that his failures had to do with him being a child, Matrix changed completely, in ways both intentional and unintentional.

The survival scenarios have put him irreparably on edge. He reacts on instinct many times, unable to think or back down when in such a state of alarm. If he's surprised, even if it's only a friend accidentally bumping into him, he instinctively points his gun at the person, and it takes a significant few seconds at minimum to calm him down enough to realize that he's under no threat. The games have habituated him to being surrounded by danger.

The other part of him growing up was his active attempt to dismiss every trace of the excitable child he once was. Before he became lost in the games, he was often looked down on and dismissed for his age and size. When he lost the game that separated him from his home, he blamed it on being too small. Since then, he worked hard to shape himself into something completely different. He became stronger, more cynical, and more aggressive. Though his love of those he cared about only grew, his attitude went sour in other regards. His innocence had been crushed, and the lower points of his experiences embittered him into an enraged man. Sometimes, when things seem hopeless for far too long, his frustration peaks into an urge to just give up, but guilt will plague his consciousness until he is moved back on track.

With his reshaped body and attitude, Matrix becomes insecure when faced with reminders of his former self. He shows bitterness or vulnerability, fearing that the changes he made to himself could be dismantled. He either gives a cold shoulder, or he begins to mope so much that his voice breaks. He's also afraid that his process of toughening up will distance or disappoint the people he loves. He's done questionable things, such as deleting a few enemies, and guilt can easily plague him, especially if imposed by someone he cares for. That guilt can also be brought down on him if he neglects to help an innocent who is out of his way or not useful to him. The thought of what his sister would think of him will turn him around to help the person. He doesn't have much problem with deleting strangers he's fighting until afterwards when the guilt is pushed on him. But he recognizes that he strides a dangerous line when he kills excessively, and will spare even a loathed virus if it means not becoming too much like him.

While living up to masculine ideals, Matrix is often hostile towards other men, particularly if he feels they're no use to him or if they get between him and his girlfriend. He's prone to strong jealousy, and if not pushed into aggressiveness he'll at least stomp away for some angry pouting. He will get up into someone's face, standing over them if he has any height advantage. It doesn't take much provocation for him to stick his gun in their face or punch them. He's almost always dissuaded from actually firing the gun, though. Most of his use of it seems to be just a show of threat. When a fight does happen, he'll opt to fight with his fists if invited to do so, preferring fights with rules and masculine honor.

Despite all the aggressive posturing and tendencies towards violence, Matrix is still almost as much of a good person as he was before he became lost in the games. Sometimes he will tell people off and say he is abandoning them, but it is completely scripted to inspire self-confidence in them so that they can help themselves without him. He has faithful and deep affection for friends, and strong love for his girlfriend, whom he shares occasional sweet moments with such as pet-names, kisses, gentle teasing, and compliments. He will do anything for those he cares for, especially her. He's been by her side for most of his life, long through the point of co-dependency. Without her, his aggression will be greatly amplified.

Character Plans: He'll be making attempts to "repair" problems and making a lot of effort to learn about the area. Until corrected and convinced, he'll assume he's in another computer system. Matrix is not comfortable without challenges or fights, so he'll probably be doing a lot of roaming and monster-fighting, and playing hero for some who really need it. He'll have a lot of questions about the core, since his home had a core in it too.

Appearance/PB: He looks fairly human, save for the green skin and purple eye. His other eye is replaced by a rotating gold device that emits red light when targeting. (He might looks a bit less... physically "realistic" to some people.)
